A Fresh Take on Business Fashion for Busy Women

Today’s busy professional women are demanding more from their business attire. More style, more comfort and, last but not least, more flexibility as they juggle demanding work and life schedules.

For 160 years, Johnston & Murphy has remained a fashion staple for men. This spring, the company’s fourth season for women, Johnston & Murphy is expanding its women’s line of shoes, outerwear, handbags, luggage and accessories — all designed with busy women in mind.

“Over the years, women would come to our stores and say: ‘Gosh, I wish you made quality footwear and outerwear for us.’ So we have,” said Deanna Grubbs, the director of retail merchandising for Johnston & Murphy.

Based on extensive research and the feedback from many loyal patrons, Grubbs said Johnston & Murphy is filling a fashion void for women. “The professional woman wants to have some sophisticated fun with her business wardrobe without sacrificing comfort or craftmanship.”

Sophisticated Business Fashion Fun

Progressive business women are sophisticated, but they also want to demonstrate their flair for fun with fashion. It’s a delicate balancing act. How to look polished for work and — all in the same day — be stylish for a client meeting, a child’s soccer match, a parent-teacher’s meeting and an unexpected night out with friends?

“Business women don’t want to be overly trendy,” Grubbs said. “They don’t want to look like their moms, but they don’t want to look like their daughters either. What they want is wearable style that can adapt to many situations. And they are demanding higher levels of comfort.”

More than Meets the Eye

Fashion must be mixed with comfort to keep pace with the often frantic lives of professional women. “Women’s wear must be more than stylish,” Grubbs said. “That’s why Johnston & Murphy has devoted a lot of time and research to ensure its fashion is made as well on the inside as it is on the outside.”

Attention to craftsmanship and comfort — as well as style — is something Johnston & Murphy is borrowing from its 160-year-old tradition with its men’s line. As with the men’s brand, these are also the hallmarks of the Johnston & Murphy women’s line.

“We are fashionable, but not overly trendy,” Grubbs said. “The Johnston & Murphy women’s line provides plenty of timeless but stylish options to go from business to dress and from business casual to casual. And to do it all with comfort and confidence.”
